Athenion is a collectible card game with a very similar premise to the popular classics in this genre like Hearthstone and Magic: The Gathering. That being said, it comes with a series of variations to its gameplay that completely modify the way confrontations are faced.
The premise of Athenion is very simple: playing cards on a game board, it's up to you to reduce the life points of your opponent down to zero. In order to do so, it's up to you to create your own decks, trying to take advantage of synergies and scaling the power of your henchmen according to the rhythm of the games. Unlike in the aforementioned titles, in Athenion, players share a single board, without any kind of division. Cards are played from any position, but you're going to need to take into account the direction of their attack.
To reduce the life energy of your enemy to zero you're going to need to play cards with 'soul', at the beginning of your turn in order to inflict an sufficient amount of damage to your enemy's hero, capable of rivaling his own soul counterattack.
Athenion's focus on correct card positioning on the board increases the strategic level of the title considerably, offering players a demanding and very fun experience, perfect for anyone looking for a tad more complexity than is the genre standard.
